Eames Lounge Chair

Updated: Jun 10, 2021

CN9 Artifacts. Featuring The Eames Lounger Chair.

A darling of the design world, The Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman were created in 1956.

It has its own spot in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

The Lounge Chair was originally by Charles and Ray Eames, designed as one-off bespoke creation rather than a production piece. However, because of its huge popularity Charles Eames set about adapting the design for production.

The prototype was made by Don Albison at The Eames Office, and the design one into production in 1956.

The accompanying ottoman with one plywood shell, has a four-star aluminium swivel base. The leather cushions were originally filled with duck feathers, down and foam.

Its stubborn elegance have assured its position amongst the most collected design pieces, remaining as largely popular today as when it was first produced back in the day.

A universally recognized form that brings comfort and style to interiors everywhere

Where to buy it?

Vintage and new production loungers often sell in the same price range of between $5,000 and $6,500, depending on the materials. Vintage examples hold their value well, as does Eames furniture in general. Copies of the Eames lounger, however, usually sell between $1,200 and $1,500, and far less when used.
